It has separated from the shores of Pickerel Lake, here in Northwest Ontario, and I see by another website that the ice has gone mostly from the Winnipeg river in the channels. The bays on the river are still frozen. Probably will be another week or so before we can get going with the airplanes.pickerelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11679784578684953462noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1261700390078225151.post-74265051285704775592011-06-15T14:33:00.000-05:002011-06-15T14:33:54.691-05:002011 Early June FishingThe early June fishing is upon us and we've had some dandy fish caught. Our Unexpected lake Outpost produced a 46" northern pike and a 27" walleye. Smallmouth Bass on Treelined lake and Brown Bear lakes are just starting to move up into bedding areas with the males staging and getting ready to spawn with females out in a bit deeper water. With the few days of warm sunny temperatures they will be for sure spawning and will offer some of the best fishing available.
Lures working have been silver/blue crank baits no longer than 4". Walleyes are hanging out in the shallower muddy bays where the may flies are hatching. The fish are in 4 to 6" of water, so if water is deeper in area then they are suspended about 1-1 1/2' above the bottom.
Minnows are working great for walleyes and leeches are good also as a backup.pickerelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11679784578684953462noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1261700390078225151.post-69184672148619316302009-10-26T15:15:00.008-05:002009-10-26T15:30:43.116-05:002010 Fishing SeasonWe are now taking bookings for the 2010 fly-in fishing season.
